A group of young people organized a sales day of old items in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday to raise funds for underprivileged children and encourage minimalism lifestyle.
The event is part of several fundraising activities initiated by members of Saigon For Blue Dragon, a charity group in the southern metropolis, since March 2020 in support of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, a charity in Vietnam that helps homeless kids and those with disabilities and rescues children from slavery and human trafficking.
Products put on sale at the event’s venue at 54/2 Nguyen Cu Trinh Street in District 1 on Sunday morning were clothes, books, and home appliances, all of which were second-hand items donated by members of the organizing board.
The items had been cleaned in advance, and most of them looked like new.

The organizing board also prepared paper bags, instead of plastic bags, while encouraging visitors to bring reusable bags to take their purchases home in order to reduce waste.
The Saigon For Blue Dragon raised more than VND35 million (US$1,519) on Sunday, according to leader Tran The Trung.
Trung said the group will continue selling the items that remained unsold on Sunday for more revenue.

“I join the event because this is a very meaningful activity, contributing to both helping children in need and encouraging recycling to protect the environment,” said Luc Thi My Duyen, a young visitor from District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.
Similar activities are slated to be continued by the group over the Internet in the future, along with new fundraising ideas.
