The General Statistics Office has just announced the socio-economic situation in August, in which the total retail sales of consumer goods and services reached VND 422,900 billion, down 2.7% from the previous month due to the epidemic. Covid-19 has reappeared in the community since July 25 in Da Nang. However, if compared with the same period last year, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services increased by 1.9%.

Da Nang is one of the localities with a sharp drop in revenue from accommodation services in August.

In which, tourism revenue dropped the most, nearly 62%, reaching 974 billion dong. Next is accommodation services down nearly 15%, reaching 41,300 billion. Meanwhile, retail sales of goods decreased the least, 0.2% and reached 334,300 billion in revenue. In addition, other services achieved revenue of more than 46 billion dong, down 4.5%.

Generally for 8 months, total retail sales of consumer goods and services reached 3.22 million billion, down slightly from the same period last year. In which, retail sales of goods reached more than 2.55 million billion, up 4% over the same period last year. Specifically, food and foodstuff increased by 8%, household appliances, utensils and equipment increased by 5.4% and apparel by 0.6%.

Hai Phong is the locality with the highest increase in retail sales of goods compared to the same period in 2019. It is followed by Hanoi, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, up 9.8%, 9.4% and 8.3%. Meanwhile, Da Nang and Khanh Hoa are localities with a sharp drop in retail sales of goods, 5-6%.

In addition, revenue from accommodation and catering services in 8 months was estimated at 322,500 billion VND, down 16.4% compared to the same period last year. Accordingly, many localities only reach 50-70% revenue such as Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

In addition, tourism revenue in 8 months was estimated at 13,100 billion, down 54.4% over the same period last year. The reason is that the Covid-19 translation makes the domestic tourism stimulus policy not implemented, tourists cancel the tour and many cultural festival events cancel, and some sightseeing places must continue to close.

Khanh Hoa is the locality with the strongest decrease in tourism revenue, reaching nearly 24%, Ho Chi Minh City 28%, Ba Ria-Vung Tau reaching nearly 33% over the same period last year.
