3rd EU–Vietnam PCA Sub-Committee on Sustainable Development

The third EU – Vietnam Sub-committee on Sustainable Development within the framework of the Viet Nam – EU Joint Committee, established under the Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement between Viet Nam and the European Union (PCA), took place yesterday in Hanoi.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Vice Minister, Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and Mr. Mario Ronconi, Head of Unit of South Asia – South East Asia, European Commission co-chaired the meeting. EU Member States representatives also attended the meeting.

The EU and Vietnam started with an update on cooperation and policy framework on sustainable development on both side. Viet Nam also informed the EU of its progress in meeting Sustainable Development Goals and implementing the newly adopted Green Growth Strategy. In response, the EU shared with the government its Global Strategies, notably the Indo Pacific and Global Gateway Strategy, and the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Multiannual Indicative Programmes for the period 2021-2027. This new phase of the EU development cooperation with Vietnam focuses on six priority areas including the Green Deal; sustainable growth and jobs; migration; science & technology including innovation and digitalisation; good governance; and human development.

Both parties had an open and constructive exchange on a wide range of topics including: Climate responsive-digital-circular economy policies and implementation progress; Economic governance and skills development; Financing instruments for sustainable development, including blending and guarantee; People-to-people connectivity and Regional cooperation

Both parties took note of the achievements and challenges, and reaffirmed their commitments to continue working together to strengthen the overall relationship through the Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Framework Agreement.
