HCMC – The Vietnam Railway Project Management Board will start upgrading six railway projects this year to improve the national railway system and beef up the capacity of railway transport.

Among them, five rail links will be financed by the State budget, while the railway renovation project in the Khe Net Pass area will be sourced from South Korea’s official development assistance loans, the local media reported.

The renovation of three sections of the Hanoi-HCMC railway, including Hanoi-Vinh, Vinh-Nha Trang and Nha Trang-HCMC, will be completed in 2025.

The 411-kilometer Nha Trang-HCMC rail link project will cost nearly VND1.1 trillion, while the 319-kilometer Hanoi-Vinh railway will require VND811 billion for upgrading.

The 996-kilometer-long Vinh-Nha Trang rail link upgrade project will be executed in the first quarter of 2023 at a total cost of VND1.2 trillion.

Two other projects comprise upgrading train stations in northern Vietnam with a total cost of VND476 billion and renovating the Duong railway bridge over the Duong River with a total investment of more than VND1.8 trillion.

The railway upgrade project in the Khe Net pass area will begin in mid-2023 and cost VND2 trillion, according to the management board.
