Labor safety and hygiene promotion
The annual action month is designed to raise awareness and compliance with occupational safety and hygiene (OSH), improve working conditions, reduce the pollution of working environments, limit occupational accidents and diseases and ensure worker health.
The Lao Cai Copper Smelting Company established a steering committee ahead of the month-long event, which assigned specific tasks, including working environment surveillance and periodic employee health checks in 2022, preparation of documents and guidelines for occupational safety and hygiene training, as well as occupational safety guidelines for employees, and replacement of old and damaged safety signs.
The company disseminated and promoted the Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene through bulletin boards, meetings and leaflets.
It reviewed and supplemented occupational safety and fire prevention and treatment regulations and processes in all member units, inspected and assessed equipment and machinery safety, and implemented regular risk assessment and control at Factory 1.
The company held occupational safety and hygiene workshops in order to improve working conditions, minimize occupational accidents and diseases while offering labor safety and hygiene training and enforcing provisions of the law on occupational safety and hygiene. It also rewarded collectives and individuals for their achievements in the field of labor safety and hygiene.
Trade union activity
The company's trade union helped the launch and realization of the Workers’ Month and the Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene, as well as the signature of commitments to ensuring labor safety and hygiene.
The trade union visited all workers infected with COVID-19, presented gifts to six collectives obtaining excellent achievements in implementation of the Workers' Month and the Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene. The trade union also added fresh fruit to workers' daily meals upon the pandemic’s outbreak in March and April, encouraged 100 workers to participate in the blood donation program of Lao Cai Province, and enabled 35 workers and trade union officials to access post-COVID-19 health consultation.
The trade union launched equipment repair and maintenance emulation campaigns, and encouraged and helped employees improve productivity in order to achieve the company’s targets.
