Farmers benefit from expanding e-commerce produce sales

Increased sales

E-commerce has helped households, such as members of the Hao Dat Tea Cooperative in Tan Cuong Commune in the northern province of Thai Nguyen’s Thai Nguyen City double their tea product sales value. Director Dao Thanh Hao said the cooperative’s sales volumes increased considerably a year after the cooperative began selling products online. The cooperative is increasingly interested in application of origin traceability stamps, non-cash payment and online marketing, she said.




E-commerce helps improve the brand and value of Vietnamese agricultural products

The cooperative and a large number of households have benefited greatly from the Ministry of Information and Communications’ digital economic development guidelines, especially digital transformation in agriculture and rural development. In 2021, more than five million agricultural production households logged onto two Vietnamese e-commerce platforms – Postmart.vn of the Vietnam Post and Voso of the Viettel Post to sell their produce.

Vietnam Post is improving its website while optimizing its cold produce supply chain, and building mobile phone-based sales applications and an origin traceability portal to form a digital support ecosystem for farm produce sales.

Digital support

The Ministry of Information and Communications has devised a plan to add 10 million agricultural production households to the Postmart.vn and Voso.vn platforms in 2022.

The information and communications sector has coordinated closely with the agriculture and rural development and industry and trade sectors to organize online and offline digital trade conferences and workshops for farming households. For example, a Thai Nguyen Province produce sales promotion conference held in March attracted speakers from the agriculture, industry and trade sectors, the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam Post and Viettel Post. The conference was welcomed by farming households and other producers.

Vu Chi Kien, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Information and Communications’ Department of Posts, said the government has tasked the ministry with facilitating the digital economy development with a focus on agriculture digitalization. Initial encouraging achievements have been obtained in this regard, he said.


Sectors, localities and businesses are making efforts to enable farmers nationwide to access digital business methods, including e-commerce, helping them enlarge market share, develop branding and add value to Vietnamese farm produce in domestic and foreign markets.
