HCMC – The Kaisa cargo ship transporting two metro trains from Japan for HCMC’s first metro line project arrived at Khanh Hoi Port in the city’s District 4 this morning, May 10.

The ship, with a capacity of 13,000 tons, left Kasado Port in Japan on May 1 and arrived in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province at 8 p.m. on May 9 before continuing its journey to HCMC.

The two metro trains with three carriages each were manufactured at Japan’s Kasado factory. Each train is 65.1 meters long and is capable of seating 930 people at a time. Its maximum speed is 110 kilometers per hour on elevated sections and 80 kilometers per hour on underground sections.

In the next three to four days, the two trains will be transported to Long Binh depot in Thu Duc City. Japanese and Vietnamese engineers will install them onto the T1 track of the metro line.

These are the second and third trains that have arrived in the city for the first metro line project. The first train arrived in Khanh Hoi Port in October last year.

According to the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC, trial operations for these three trains will begin soon.

HCMC’s metro line No. 1 will have 17 trains, with the first phase using the three-car trains and the following phase using the six-carriage ones, which are all manufactured in Japan.

The metro line, linking Ben Thanh Market in District 1 with Suoi Tien Theme Park, is 19.7 kilometers long with 14 stations. Up to now, it is more than 84% complete.
