The Standing Committee of Hai Phong City Party Committee has just approved the policy of bringing the LNG gas power plant project in Cai Trap island, Cat Hai district with a capacity of 1600 MW into the National Electricity Development Plan for the period 2021 – 2030 with a vision by 2045.

This project has a total estimated investment of 1.9 billion USD, divided into 2 phases. In which, phase 1 with a capacity of 800 MW will be put into operation in 2025 and Phase II with a capacity of 800MW will operate in 2028. The technology used is a combined cycle gas turbine.

The plant’s LNG terminal is located in the East of Cai Trap island with a storage tank of about 200000m3. This is a liquid cargo terminal located separate from the cargo terminal, with high flow conditions and receiving capacity, suitable for ships from 40000 to 90000 DWT to transport LNG to the plant.

In Cat Hai, the most prominent project is Vingroup’s VinFast car and motorcycle production complex on an area of 355 hectares with a total investment of 3.5 billion USD. In addition, Vinhome – a subsidiary specializing in the real estate sector of Vingroup, invests in developing the infrastructure of Thuy Nguyen Industrial Park on an area of 319 hectares with a total investment of more than 4000 billion VND.

In addition, the Standing Committee of Hai Phong City Party Committee also agreed to put the LNG Gas Power Plant Complex Project proposed by Exxon Mobil Corporation to invest in Tien Lang 1 Industrial Park with a capacity of 4500 MW, total investment about 509 billion USD.

The Standing Committee of Hai Phong City Party Committee believes that the investment in the construction of LNG gas power plants in Hai Phong will contribute to ensuring enough energy supply for the city as well as the North.

According to the power development plan of Hai Phong city for the period 2016 – 2025 with a consideration of 2035 approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on November 142018 the maximum capacity of Hai Phong city in 2020 is 1348 MW, 2025 is 2112 MW, it is 2986 MW in 2030 and 3989 MW by 2035.
